Volunteer Program Requirements

If you are looking for a special and meaningful way to spend your time, the patients and families at Children’s Hospital need you.  Adults and high school students are placed throughout the hospital in a variety of volunteer positions based on their interests and availability.

Program Requirements

  • 18 years of age (or older), or currently enrolled in high school with a G.P.A. greater than or equal to 3.0 (copy of high school transcript needed to verify G.P.A.)
  • Completion of Health Screening to include:
    • Proof of immunity against Measles, Mumps and Rubella (MMR)
    • Proof of immunity against Chicken Pox (Varicella)
    • Proof of a tuberculosis (PPD/TB) skin test administered in the last 12 months
    • A second PPD/TB screening test completed here at the hospital
  • Meeting with the Volunteer Coordinator to discuss current openings and completed paperwork. Completion of health screening and meeting with the Volunteer Coordinator does not guarantee acceptance in to the Volunteer Services program.
  • Acceptance of the Time Commitment
  • Attendance at a New Volunteer Orientation
  • Purchase a uniform for $20

Time Commitment

Individuals will be expected to commit to a weekly or bi-weekly schedule, volunteering a minimum of 6 hours per month.  When initially signing up to volunteer, individuals agree to commit to an initial 6 months of volunteering.  Volunteer hours will be verified after the initial 6 month commitment has been met.

New Volunteer Orientation

New Volunteer Orientation is held monthly on the second Saturday of the month from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.  Each orientation is limited to 30 individuals.  Volunteers must first receive health screening clearance and meet with a Volunteer Coordinator before attending an orientation.

Ready to get started?  Download and complete the Volunteer Application packet.  Then contact the Volunteer Services office at (559) 353-5222 to schedule your health screening appointment.
