Dr. Amanda Fernandez is board certified in pediatric neurology by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, with a special qualification in child neurology. She is the medical director of the Pediatric Muscular Dystrophy Association Clinic in our area.
In addition to her medical training and expertise, Dr. Fernandez is a member of several professional societies including the American Academy of Neurology, the American Epilepsy Society and the Child Neurology Society. She has served as a member of the Dade County Public Schools Ad Hoc Committee for Traumatic Brain Injury and has participated in community programs for epilepsy. Dr. Fernandez has given more than 25 lectures and seminars on pediatric neurology topics ranging from neonatal seizures to pediatric brain trauma. She has also been involved in several research studies.
A graduate from the University of the East, Ramon Magsaysay Memorial Medical Center in Quezon City, Philippines, Dr. Fernandez completed her residency at the SUNY-Health Science Center in Brooklyn, N.Y.
Dr. Fernandez completed a pediatric neurology fellowship at the University of Miami-Jackson Memorial Medical Center in Florida. She has held academic faculty appointments at the University of Miami and Louisiana State University Health Science Center in Shreveport.
