Hospitalist Dr. Basima Razak joined Children’s as a pediatric hospitalist in June 2010. Board certified in pediatrics, she is a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. She brings more than a decade of pediatric experience to Children’s having served as an outpatient attending physician, general pediatrician and pediatric hospitalist.
Prior to Children’s, Dr. Razak served in an administrative capacity as division head of general pediatrics at Tawam Hospital in Al Ain, United Arab Emirates. Her experience includes providing care to a diverse patient population of different acuity, including developmentally disabled and at-risk children, from infancy through adolescence, and decreasing the length of stay for hospitalized patients by improving standards of care and emphasizing evidence-based practice of medicine. She has a special interest in asthma and allergic rhinitis and established an asthma clinic for evaluation of asthma patients, achieving excellent results in patient compliance and control of symptoms.
Dr. Razak received her medical degree from Baghdad University Medical School in Baghdad, Iraq. She completed an internship at Al-Yarmouk Teaching Hospital where she received postgraduate training in pediatrics, internal medicine, surgery, obstetrics and gynecology. Dr. Razak received additional postgraduate training at Children’s Hospital of Michigan in Detroit, Mich. She completed her pediatric residency at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, ,gaining experience in primary care pediatrics, inpatient and intensive care pediatrics, adolescent healthcare, delivery room practice, well and high-risk newborn care, and on-scene emergency medicine.
Active in the community, Dr. Razak provided health education at The American Arab Children Center in Dearborn, Mich.
