Dr. Dowain Wright is board certified in pediatric rheumatology by the American Board of Pediatrics, Inc. In addition to serving as medical director of Immunology and Rheumatology at Children’s Hospital, Dr. Wright is chair of the Department of Medicine and a clinical assistant professor in pediatrics at University of California, San Francisco School of Medicine.
During his nearly 20 year medical career, Dr. Wright has held positions as assistant professor in pediatrics at Emory University School of Medicine, attending in pediatrics at Egleston Children’s Hospital in Atlanta and a consultant in pediatrics at Scottish Rite Children’s Hospital in Atlanta.
Dr. Wright publishes regularly and his work has been in the Journal of Virology, Molecular Immunology and the Journal of Pediatrics. He has authored chapters in medical textbooks and his special interests include persistent viral infections in autoimmune disease, childhood vasculitides and Kawasaski disease resistant to conventional therapy.
Dr. Wright is a member of several professional societies. He is a fellow of the American College of Rheumatology and the American Academy of Pediatrics. He is a member of the Pediatric Rheumatology Collaborative Study Group and the Childhood Arthritis & Rheumatic Disease Research Alliance.
Active in the community, Dr. Wright is a board member at Kings View Mental Health and served as chair of the Quality Care Committee from 2004 to 2008. He is a board member of the Clovis Swim Club and Central California Swimming.
Dr. Wright earned his medical degree from University of California, San Diego School of Medicine. He completed a residency in pediatric medicine and a fellowship in immunology/rheumatology at Children’s Hospital, Boston. Dr. Wright holds a doctorate in molecular virology from University of California, San Diego.
