The Medical Director of Children’s Cardiopulmonary Exercise Laboratory, Dr. John Caton is an expert in pediatric cardiology. He is also a former chief of staff at Children’s.
Dr. Caton is board certified by the American Board of Pediatrics in pediatric cardiology and pediatrics. His research has been published in peer-reviewed journals including “Pediatrics, Medicine and Science in Sports and Exercise,” and the “Journal of Applied Physiology.”
Dr. Caton attended medical school at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) School of Medicine, where he was honored as an outstanding graduate and received the School of Medicine Association Award. He also received the Ralph Hamburger Award for outstanding student research project from the UCSD School of Medicine.
Prior to earning his medical degree, Dr. Caton obtained a master’s degree in physical education from the University of California, Davis. His thesis reported on associations among PCr, ATP, Pi, pH, oxygen consumption and work rate in human forearm muscle.
After receiving his medical degree, Dr. Caton completed his pediatric residency at the University of Utah, Primary Children’s Medical Center in Salt Lake City and a three-year pediatric cardiology fellowship at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) Medical Center. While completing his fellowship he received the Fellow Teaching Award from the UCLA Department of Pediatrics.
Dr. Caton lives in Clovis with his wife and their children.
