Board certified in pediatrics and pediatric gastroenterology by the American Board of Pediatrics, Dr. Philip McDonald joined Children’s Hospital Central California as a pediatric gastroenterologist in August 2012. His areas of special interest include food allergies, feeding problems, and eosinophilic esophagitis.
With more than 35 years’ experience, Dr. McDonald comes to us from Sacramento, Calif., where he had a private practice in pediatric gastroenterology for 31 years.
Dr. McDonald earned his medical degree from the University of Kansas School of Medicine in Kansas City, Kansas. He completed his internship and residency in pediatrics at Kansas University Medical Center, in Kansas City. He did his fellowship in pediatric gastroenterology at the University of Texas Medial Branch in Galveston, Texas.
He has published in peer-reviewed publications such as “Neuropsychologia,” “American Journal of Diseases of Children,” “Pediatric Research,” “Journal of Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition,” “Gastroenterology” and “Digestive Diseases.”
Dr. McDonald is a member of several professional societies, including the American Academy of Pediatrics; American Medical Association; North American Society for Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition; and California Medical Association. He is a member of Specialty Medical Group.
In his free time, he enjoys astronomy, playing the piano, and spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren.
