Board certified in pediatric gastroenterology and nutrition, Dr. Richard Quan joined Children’s Hospital in May 2011 as a pediatric gastroenterologist. His specific areas of interest include general pediatric gastroenterology disorders, including recurrent abdominal pain, inflammatory bowel disease, food intolerance/allergy and regulatory issues in infant formulas.
Dr. Quan comes to us from Providence Physician Services in Spokane, Wash., where he served as an attending physician. Previously he also served as medical officer, clinical research and review, Center for Food Safety and Nutrition at the US Food and Drug Administration in Washington, D.C.
Dr. Quan has about 25 years’ experience as a physician, administrator and teacher. He has held several academic appointments over the years in pediatric gastroenterology and nutrition including positions at University of California, Davis; University of Nevada, School of Medicine; and University of Texas Southwestern.
Dr. Quan received his medical degree from the College of Medicine, University of South Alabama, in Mobile, Ala. He completed his internship and residency at Children’s Hospital, University of Alabama at Birmingham in Birmingham, Ala. He also completed both a fellowship in pediatric gastroenterology and a postdoctoral fellowship in gastroenterology at Stanford University Medical Center in Stanford, Calif.
Dr. Quan is a member of several professional societies, including the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American Gastroenterological Association and the North American Society for Pediatric Gastroenterology. He is a member of Specialty Medical Group.
