Dr. Sahar Barayan is board certified in pediatric nephrology by the American Board of Pediatrics. She is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics and the International Society of Pediatric Nephrologists.
While working in Saudi Arabia, Dr. Barayan established pediatric dialysis services in two hospitals. She provided hemodialysis and peritoeneal dialysis training and introduced continuous renal replacement therapies to the intensive care units. Dr. Barayan championed the initiative to promote organ donation through lectures and by organizing organ donor card registration drives. She partnered with other physicians to improve how the Saudi Center of Organ Transplant listed and prioritized pediatric patients. Dr. Barayan also served as a co-investigator for two National Institute of Health studies on chronic kidney disease and focal segmental glomerulosclerosis.
Prior to joining Children’s, Dr. Barayan was an attending pediatric nephrologist at Inova Fairfax Hospital for Children in Falls Church, Va. Dr. Barayan is married and has two children.
After graduating from King Faisal University Hospital in Dammam, Saudi Arabia, Dr. Barayan completed her pediatric residency at Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, D.C., and a pediatric nephrology fellowship at the University of California, Los Angeles Medical Center.
