Due to an increase of the respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) and the seasonal flu, Children’s Hospital Central California has implemented its annual visitation restrictions. This is for the safety of patients, visitors and staff.
Until further notice, children 12 and under will not be able to visit patients in the Child Life playroom and on all inpatient units except the Rehabilitation Center. Parents and visitors are encouraged to leave children at home when they come to the hospital to visit patients.
The goal of these restrictions is to prevent visiting children from infecting hospitalized children with RSV and flu. It also protects visiting children from being infected by hospital patients.
RSV is a respiratory virus that infects the lungs and breathing passages. It can lead to serious health problems in young children and is the most common cause of bronchiolitis and pneumonia in children under 1 in the United States.
These restrictions are expected to last until RSV subsides in the spring.
