Lindsay Pierce couldn’t believe it. Of all the talented acts that graced the Gallo Center stage for the Valley’s Got Talent contest on Saturday night, she was chosen by the judges and audience as the $1,000 Children’s Hospital Central California grand prize winner.

"I was completely shocked that I, out of every wonderful performer that performed that night, won the grand prize," she told The Modesto Bee on Tuesday. "It's mind blowing."

Pierce competed against 25 other acts that ranged from singing and dancing to yo-yo acrobats and mind reading. She will be given the opportunity to perform at another Gallo Center event during the 2010/2011 season.

The second prize was awarded to the California Ballroom Company dancers, Rhett Grant and Tiffany Li. Audience members voted the New Hope Church Band of Modesto and Turlock as their favorite for the third prize.

The event boasted of two celebrity judges, Robert Ulrich, a Modesto native and casting director for the Emmy-Award nominated TV show “Glee” and his wife, Kim Johnston Ulrich, a longtime favorite actress on the soap “Passions.” Local judges included Dan Day, The Modesto Bee’s director of interactive media, Tony Varni from Modesto’s Seven-Up Bottling Company, and Genevieve Hinson, Children’s social media coordinator.

“Valley’s Got Talent was a rousing success,” said Gallo Center chief executive officer Lynn Dickerson.  “I’m so proud of all the contestants, as well as the wonderful support this event received from communities in the Central Valley.”

The event was co-sponsored by Children’s Hospital Central California along with The Modesto Bee and Modesto’s Seven-Up Bottling Company.
