Millions have seen Children’s Hospital from the outside. The colorful building on the San Joaquin River is admired by nearly three million travelers on their way to Yosemite National Park every year. It is visible from the city of Fresno across the river, and is on the horizon for nearly the whole length of the Friant walking trail. The 50-acre regional pediatric facility is one of the largest of its type in the United States and, in California, it admits more pediatric patients than any children’s hospital north of San Diego. As landmarks go, this one stands alone.

As grand as Children’s looks from the outside, it is the view from the inside that takes your breath away. The faces of the children and the people who help them, the advanced medicine that is happening every single minute, the daily miracles of compassion that make the healing meaningful. This is a special environment for both the kids we treat and the people who work here. But our unique healing atmosphere is something you don’t see as you drive by on Highway 41, so we decided to do something very special. We’d like to invite you inside.

On an unusually cool night at the end of July, we opened our doors to 30 Central California photographers and asked them to be your eyes for exactly 24 hours. They captured it all - the emotional, the difficult, and the triumphant.

It costs $1 million to operate Children’s for one day, and when you see the innocent and playful faces of those we help, you understand that this is a very small price to pay.
