The Craycroft Cancer Center

A full member of the national Children’s Oncology Group (COG), The Craycroft Cancer Center has more than 300 patients on COG protocols at any given time. The Center is one of the largest participants in COG research protocols on the West Coast. Children’s is committed to exploring new, life-saving treatments whenever available. COG is a cooperative research collaborative of more than 2,000 physicians in the U.S. and Canada that provide multi-specialty care for children with cancer at hospitals that treat a significant number of cancer patients. COG members have been the primary innovators in new treatments for children with cancer.

All COG members must maintain the highest standards for treating children with cancer. Our pediatric oncologists and hematologists at the Craycroft Cancer Center follow COG-defined protocols to prove their scientific, medical and ethical scientific expertise. To help develop new ways to treat children’s cancer, COG members submit diagnostic, treatment and follow-up data to the COG Research Data Center. Because the data from many patients are combined, clinical trials obtain results more rapidly and new treatments are developed hundreds of times faster. Because Children’s Hospital is a part of COG, we are able to access information that the group generates, offering patients and families the latest medications and best treatment regiments.

The Craycroft Center is one of the largest pediatric cancer centers on the West Coast and is comprised of an outpatient cancer center, the new state-of-the-art 36 bed inpatient unit ( Starship Craycroft), and Children's Hematology/Oncology Practice. Our multi-disciplinary team includes not only oncologists and hematologists, but psychologists, neuro-psychologists, social workers, interpreters, case workers and, when the need arises, a palliative care program. We provide direct patient care, supportive care, care coordination and education to children with cancer and their families. The Craycroft Cancer Center serves over 500 children and families annually and diagnoses over 100 new patients each year.

Our focus is on family-centered care, which emphasizes comfort, patient care and safety. The Center is fully integrated with the complete range of services offered by the Hospital including imaging, laboratory work, interpreter support and case workers.
