The Rehabilitation Center
Children's has the only independent Pediatric Rehabilitation Center in California accredited by CARF, the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities. The expert team offers comprehensive inpatient and outpatient care featuring physical, occupational, and speech/language therapy services.
The Center works to maximize each child’s abilities while minimizing the effects of the impairment with the ultimate goal of helping each individual continue the experiences of childhood or adolescence and return to home, school or work at the earliest possible time.
Facilities include pools and gyms in both the inpatient and outpatient settings. A board certified physiatrist is on hand with available consultation from Children’s board certified neurologists and neurosurgeons. Counseling is provided by clinical psychologists, neuro-psychologists, and social workers.
The environment in the inpatient center encourages family members and caregivers to participate in all aspects of care. Children’s also offers an experienced Rehab Engineering team to design, build and modify assistive devices to meet a child’s needs. This may range from a specially designed or sized wheelchair to device control and communication interfaces.

Rehabilitation Engineering:
Our Rehab Program provides specialized equipment to meet our kids’ individual needs, allowing patients with physical limitations to participate in activities in their surrounding environment. Children’s Rehab Engineering Department works collaboratively with our physical and occupational therapists to provide assistive technology, adaptive equipment, and seating/positioning systems to improve function.
