Nephrology

The Nephrology Practice
at Children’s Hospital Central California provides a specialized, multidisciplinary approach to the care of infants, children and adolescents with congenital and acquired kidney disease. In an effort to offer cutting-edge treatment, the Nephrology team participates in studies of new antihypertensive agents and works with the National Kidney Registry. The Nephrology Practice is supported by professionals in clinical nutrition, social work and nursing.

More about the practice from QuickChart

(QuickChart, Summer 2008) Dr. Sahar Barayan joined Dr. Jerome Murphy and Dr. Syed Kamal in the Nephrology Division at Children’s Hospital Central California in late 2007. All three specialists are certified by the American Board of Pediatrics, Inc. in Pediatrics and Pediatric Nephrology.

With the addition of Dr. Barayan, the Division is open to referrals for all nephrology diagnoses. In fact, as of February, almost 90% of all new patient referrals were seen within 30 days. Dr. Murphy expressed gratitude to referring physicians for their patience while the Division worked to fill the vacancy.

The Nephrology Program at Children’s provides comprehensive and continuous inpatient and outpatient care including the only dedicated pediatric peritoneal dialysis program in the Valley. Other options for the treatment of acute, advanced or permanent kidney failure include hemodialysis and continuous venovenous hemofiltration. Offering cutting-edge treatment, the team participates in studies of new antihypertensive agents and works with the National Kidney Registry.

Diagnostically, the Nephrology Division offers a minimally invasive percutaneous biopsy that can be ultrasound guided to evaluate for the full spectrum of nephritides and nephropathies.

The team treats conditions including acute and chronic renal failure and other syndromes and disorders related to kidney disease and works closely with our pediatric urologists in medical care of patients with complex urologic problems.

Nephrology utilizes nurses, a dietician, and social worker with years of experience in pediatric nephrology. Their follow up between clinic visits ensures the best outcomes and is the foundation of the practice.
